Mission Moment - Markie Rodgers (Team Hero for the Eastern PA Chapter)

A personal message from Amanda Goble:

Some of you have met Markie Rodgers, one of our Honored Heroes, and some may have been in touch with him and his family throughout your TNT experience. He is a not only a survivor, but one of your biggest supporters. Below is a poem he wrote to share with the team. So, as the training gets longer and we get closer to the final money dates, it is important to see why you have been working so hard!

IT'S A MARATHON WE TRAVEL TO,
TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE HERE
IN HOPES TO HELP MORE CHILDREN,
IN HOPES A CURE IS NEAR

OVER MANY MILES, THAT YOU WILL SHORTLY DO
YOU SHOULD BE SO VERY PROUD, SO VERY PROUD OF YOU!

I KNOW THAT THROUGH YOUR TRAINING
YOU MORE THAN ONCE WOULD SAY,
WHY ON EARTH DID I SAY YES
I'M SO BUSY EVERYDAY

YOU SEE, WHEN I WAS JUST A YOUNG BOY
'WAS AS SICK AS SICK COULD BE
LEUKEMIA THE SENTENCE
NOT GOOD NEWS FOR ME

BUT BECAUSE OF TEAM IN TRAINING
AND NEW ADVANCES EVERYDAY
I AM A PROUD SURVIVOR
I AM VERY GLAD TO SAY!

SO I HOPE I HELP YOU THROUGH
ALL THE MILES YOU ENDURE
SO YOU CAN NOW ENJOY
THE REWARDS THAT ARE IN STORE

I KNOW I AM YOUR HERO
BUT I HAVE A SECRET TOO
I ALSO HAVE A HERO
AND THAT HERO WOULD BE YOU!

LOVE AND KISSES
MARKIE!X0X0X0X0X0X0X0X0X0

About Me

I became involved with Team In Training during the Spring 2007 season by training for the New Jersey Marathon in Long Branch, New Jersey. Prior races include several 5K and 10K events, and one half marathon. Training for an endurance event takes a lot of commitment, courage, and vision. Looking back on my casual running experience for the past two decades, I never imagined training for a marathon! Through Team In Training, I found a great training program, developed new friendships, and made a significant impact by raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma from taking more lives. I am continually inspired by our featured team heroes and the personal stories from friends, family, and teammates that were shared during my initial fundraising for the cause. Please enjoy reading the past stories of my experience.
