Attendance was good for the first practice after the holidays. Almost nine miles were completed during today's training session at Valley Forge for full marathon participants. The hills were tough during the second loop, but were manageable!
Next Sunday, we return to Kelly Drive for our first team attempt at running ten miles. What a great way to start the new year!

Fourth Practice - Kelly Drive
The first day of winter occurred a few days ago, but it felt like Christmas in July today! Eight miles were completed during today's training session at Kelly Drive for full marathon participants. I believe most of us completed the distance.
After many years of residing in the Philadelphia area, I finally had my "Rocky" moment... a fellow runner (Denny) and I sprinted to the top of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps during the last mile!
Each week, I'm meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends... what a great experience!
I have reached a fundraising milestone... $1003 as of this afternoon!!! I'm one third toward reaching my goal. Pass the word to your friends!

Third Practice - Valley Forge
Another warm day! Six miles were completed during today's training session at Valley Forge for full marathon participants. We seem to be finding our running partners for the race! A few injuries occurred, but coach Bill had good advice for those affected.
Next Saturday, we return to Kelly Drive in Philadelphia.

Second Practice - Kelly Drive
Today's training session at Kelly Drive started near the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 8:00 AM. Our head coach, Bill, spoke about flexibility and sticking to our running schedule for maximum training results. Amanda, our Team In Training Campaign Coordinator, gave a short speech about the cause for newcomers and allowed a fellow teammate to share a personal story.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous today! Sure, it was somewhat cold, but I warmed up during the first mile. There were many teammates attending for the first time, so it was nice to get acquainted during the run.
Most of us completed 3 to 6 miles today... GO TEAM! Next Saturday, we return to Valley Forge.

Message From Team Mentor - Mentee Get Together
Hi everyone,
I hope everyone did okay with the first run practice. What a great way to introduce those hills of Valley Forge, huh? Okay, sorry for the short notice but it's hard planning something this time of year with so many people. Us mentors have to have a group gathering with our mentees. We have joined forces with two other mentors and their mentees (Jen and Jane), for a mentee gathering. For those of you who met Curtis this weekend, we are inviting him to share some more stories that will hopefully inspire you all in fundraising and training. Please feel free to invite your team heroes!
We are going to meet at the Great American Pub in Conshohocken between 6-7pm (whenever it's convenient for you all after work) on Thursday, December 7th. Again, sorry for the short notice but it was difficult to find a decent day and time and place. I hope most of you can make it. Let me know if you can't.
Directions from Philadelphia: Take 76 West out of the city, take Conshohocken exit, keep straight over bridge. You'll be on Fayette Street. The Great American Pub is a few lights on the right (I believe it's between 2nd and 3rd streets).
Directions from suburbs of Delaware County: Take 476 North to Conshohoken exit (76 splits to the right, keep left). I believe you make a right off the exit, keep straight through light over bridge, you are then on Fayette Street. The Great American Pub is on your right between 2nd and 3rd street, I believe.

First Practice - Valley Forge
First day of training at Valley Forge National Historical Park was wonderful! Curtis Bronson, one of our Team Heroes, was present to share his story... a heart-warming message that inspired us all to think about our fundraising goals and to give 110 % during our training run! I had a chance to speak to him for a few minutes before his speech, and mentioned posting his story on my personal website (see Stephen's Links). It was a pleasure meeting him... any worries about raising enough money for my $3000 goal have vanished after hearing his story in person!!!
I recognized a few people from the 11/9 kick-off meeting and met a few new recruits during the training run. To my surprise, I managed to stick with the top runners for 5 miles! I suppose 15+ years of jogging has finally paid off!
Afterwards, breakfast with a few teammates at Ruby's Diner in King of Prussia was a great way to end a fantastic day of training! Next Sunday, we're training at Kelly Drive in Philly.

About Me
- Stephen
- I became involved with Team In Training during the Spring 2007 season by training for the New Jersey Marathon in Long Branch, New Jersey. Prior races include several 5K and 10K events, and one half marathon. Training for an endurance event takes a lot of commitment, courage, and vision. Looking back on my casual running experience for the past two decades, I never imagined training for a marathon! Through Team In Training, I found a great training program, developed new friendships, and made a significant impact by raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma from taking more lives. I am continually inspired by our featured team heroes and the personal stories from friends, family, and teammates that were shared during my initial fundraising for the cause. Please enjoy reading the past stories of my experience.
