Full marathon participants completed twelve miles today. We ran a loop from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to Ridge Avenue in Manayunk, then completed the remaining mileage by running along a trail to South Street and back to the museum. A slight pain in my left knee has surfaced, but I was able to complete the course. I plan to rest this afternoon with a cold compress on the knee, and a good book!
Next Saturday, we return to Valley Forge to run sixteen miles!

Twelfth Practice - Valley Forge
The snow and ice altered our course today! Full marathon participants completed fourteen miles by running two six-mile loops, and one two-mile loop along the service roads starting at the main building. It was not fun fighting traffic today due to a historical reenactment event, but we made it! This was a milestone for me since my longest run occurred in 2005 during a half marathon event.
Mission Moment... please continue to keep Adam, Curtis and Markie in your thoughts and prayers.
Fundraising update... no new donations this week. The total remains at $2335. I'm still working on the fundraising ideas discussed last week, so stay tuned for more information!
Next Sunday, we return to Kelly Drive.

Eleventh Practice - Valley Forge
The warm weather has returned... 30+ degrees today! Full marathon participants completed ten miles by running two five-mile loops on the trail by the main building.
Mission Moment... see my last post below regarding Adam Spector's status. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Another team hero, Curtis Bronson, passed along good news to Amanda (Team In Training Campaign Coordinator) recently... Curtis and his wife may be able to conceive children soon thanks to modern technology! Congratulations Curtis!!!
Fundraising update... I have reached $2335. I'm still receiving donations in the mail, and through my Team In Training website... $665 to go! Other fundraising ideas may materialize soon... I'm thinking about selling items at a flea market in the Spring, and may talk to a few of my musical friends about upcoming benefit shows. Stay tuned!
Next Saturday, we return to Valley Forge again.

Mission Moment
Honored Hero Update
Team Hero Adam Spector is still fighting his Lymphoma with everything that he has. He is on a new treatment that has been able to somewhat stabilize the cancer, but unfortunately the treatment has some significant side effects. It is those side effects that are making him incredibly sick at the present time. He will continue to be on this regiment for awhile and they won’t know how much of an impact it is making on the Lymphoma for some time. We have been hearing from time-to-time from his mom and she has been checking his email. Feel free to send warm wishes to the Spector family, but please know that a response is highly unlikely. Just let them know that they are in your thoughts, and in the miles you run/walk and the dollars you raise. Remember that what you are doing as a Team In Training participant is helping individuals such as Adam in their fights against blood cancers. Keep up the great work.

Tenth Practice - Kelly Drive
Arctic air produced dangerous wind chills today in the Philadelphia area. What a great day to run outside... yeah right! As most of us thought about staying in our warm beds this morning, we remembered the cause and ventured outside for a team practice this morning in the bone-chilling weather. Full marathon participants completed twelve miles today. At the end of practice, one of our team heroes (David Wolovitz) supplied warm apple cider to all team members (spring, summer, and winter)... thanks for keeping us warm, David!!!
Our Training Course... The route for today started at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. We ran along Kelly Drive into Manayunk, turned around at Richards Apex on Main St., then headed back to a parking lot near the museum. For those of you not familiar with the area, here's a link to our course at Google Maps.
Fundraising update... I have reached $2300. Only $700 to go until I reach my personal fundraising goal!
Next Saturday, we return to Valley Forge... let's hope the arctic temperatures will disappear before the weekend!

About Me
- Stephen
- I became involved with Team In Training during the Spring 2007 season by training for the New Jersey Marathon in Long Branch, New Jersey. Prior races include several 5K and 10K events, and one half marathon. Training for an endurance event takes a lot of commitment, courage, and vision. Looking back on my casual running experience for the past two decades, I never imagined training for a marathon! Through Team In Training, I found a great training program, developed new friendships, and made a significant impact by raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma from taking more lives. I am continually inspired by our featured team heroes and the personal stories from friends, family, and teammates that were shared during my initial fundraising for the cause. Please enjoy reading the past stories of my experience.
