A lot of times we may overuse words and slowly they begin to lose their meaning. Most of the times these are the most important words such as love, courage and hero. The individuals and families we are out there training and fundraising for such as Curtis Bronson, David Wolovitz, Markie Rodgers, Jen Polo or insert the name of your family member or friend – they are our heroes. They are our motivation, but also remember that you also are their hero. Just so we don’t forget here is a poem about what that word really means.
What Is A Hero?
A hero is someone who moves beyond fear
toward battles his heart has to win,
who conquers not so much with forceful bravado;
but by summoning strength from within.
A hero is someone whose sense of what's right
propels him as nothing else could,
and when he performs beyond all his dreams;
it is selflessly for other's good.
It is not within him to carry revenge,
nor to boast of victories won,
but to quietly face every new challenge;
doing what needs to be done.
And even if fate deals him less than fair hands,
he plays them with fairness of heart,
for it is an inherent goodness within
that sets a hero apart.

About Me
- Stephen
- I became involved with Team In Training during the Spring 2007 season by training for the New Jersey Marathon in Long Branch, New Jersey. Prior races include several 5K and 10K events, and one half marathon. Training for an endurance event takes a lot of commitment, courage, and vision. Looking back on my casual running experience for the past two decades, I never imagined training for a marathon! Through Team In Training, I found a great training program, developed new friendships, and made a significant impact by raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma from taking more lives. I am continually inspired by our featured team heroes and the personal stories from friends, family, and teammates that were shared during my initial fundraising for the cause. Please enjoy reading the past stories of my experience.
